Dimapur, Dec. 8: Hard rock/blues band from Bengaluru, Perfect Strangers emerged as winner of this year’s Hornbill International Rock Contest. They walked away with a cash prize of INR 10 lac.
For a band that derived its name from rock legends Deep Purple’s song ‘Perfect Strangers’, the irony was rich–for after tonight’s achievement, the band are no longer a stranger to the country’s music rock music scene.
The band’s Shalini Mohan was also adjudged the best bassist of the competition. Nagaland’s own UDX, coming out after a long hiatus, was the first runner-up; while Ambush from Karbi Anglong was declared the second runner-up.
UDX’ s Nash (Moa) Longkumer was declared the best guitarist; Mingmalamu Tamang of Vishnu took the best drummer’s title; while Leewang Dorje of Darjeeling-based Meraki was adjudged the best vocalist.
The three judges for the rock contest were Derek Julian, Sonam Sherpa and Among Jamir.
