MOKOKCHUNG, OCTOBER 10 (MExN): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary In-charge of Nagaland and a former Minister in Assam, Pradyut Bordoloi said today that the Congress party will try to recapture its glory in Nagaland.

While addressing local media persons here, the national Congress leader from Assam said that his party will be rejuvenated and that there is a “Congress undercurrent” even though the party had been out of power in the state for more than fifteen years.

The AICC Secretary said that the NDPP-BJP government in Nagaland has not been able to deliver the goods to the people and alleged that the BJP government in the centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has systematically betrayed the cause of the Naga people.

On the NDPP forging a pre-poll alliance with the BJP in Nagaland during the last elections, Bordoloi said that Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphio Rio told the Naga people that his party’s alliance with BJP was necessary because Nagaland would benefit only if it aligns with the party in power in Delhi.

He said, “Rio has done a great disservice to the Naga people by aligning with the BJP,” and added that the Nagaland CM is being used as a Trojan Horse by the Hindutva ideologues to finish off the manifestation and identity of the Naga people. He alleged that the RSS through BJP was running the Rio government through proxy.

“Congress party is very concerned about it. Congress respects the Naga aspiration,” he added. He further added that the Congress party has always given importance to the aspirations of the Naga people and has stood by its commitment enshrined in the 16-point document and the constitutional Article 371(A). He added that the Congress party is ready to offer maximum autonomy possible to the Nagas under the ambit of the Indian constitution.

Bordoloi also said that the BJP National General Secretary, Ram Madhav frequenting Nagaland was “bad omen” for Nagas.

Bordoloi was on his maiden visit to Nagaland with the “singular objective” to rejuvenate the Congress party in the state. He held a day-long meeting with the Mokokchung District Congress Committee. He will be travelling to Tuensang tomorrow as part of his tour programme. He was accompanied by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President, K Therie.
