Ukhrul | March 26
The second edition of Made in Ukhrul – an Entrepreneurship Conclave cum Trade Fair – is all set to be held at the Bakshi Ground Indoor Stadium, Hungpung in Ukhrul district on April 5 and 6.
Organized by a small start-up group – Hill Wild, the 2018 edition of Made in Ukhrul is being held under the theme “Sustainable Ukhrul 2030”.
Hill Wild is a community based movement focusing on economic sustainability and has successfully created artisan sausages and chocolates using exotic pumpkin seeds.
Founded by Leiyolan Vashum and Zeinorin Stephen Angkang, Hill Wild conceptualised Made in Ukhrul with an aim to bring economic sustainability in the district town of Ukhrul.
The first edition in 2017 was self funded but despite the financial constraints and several other hiccups, the event provided a platform for 25 entrepreneurs to display their products which ranged from clothing, furniture, processed foods, handicrafts, textiles etc. It also provided a platform for new distribution deals while also offering the opportunity to build new partnerships and networking opportunities with buyers.
Through the event, the local populace have also warmed up to the idea of creating local goods and products, says Zeinorin Stephen Angkang, CMO Hill Wild.
But bringing economic sustainability is no easy task.
According to Angkang, the first step towards addressing the issue was to bring the local entrepreneurs together and pushing the small businessmen and entrepreneurs to use their skill and talent to maximum and exporting their products beyond the district and state.
While the MadeInUkhrul 2017 edition was self funded by Hill Wild, the 2018 edition is being sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Apart from exhibitions, the event will offer various opportunities including Business Pitching Competition for entrepreneurs with a winning prize of Rs. 1 lakh as seed funding. The event will also host Totalstart Ecosystem Developers which seeks to incubate 30 women entrepreneurs who want to scale their business up to Rs. 10 crores in the next 5 years.
Eminent mentors and speakers including: Karma Bhutia, CEO of Ishippo.com; Satabdee Borah, CEO of GNRC hospitals; Gaurav Gupta, CEO of Swaaha; Vignesh Rmeshwamy, CEO of Tartl; Neichute Duolo, CEO of Entrepreneurs Associate; Shiroi Lily Shaiza, Managing Director, Aspora Nagaland; and Dr. Suryanil Ghosh, Chairman of TotalStart entrepreneurship ecosystem developers will be speaking during the event to encourage the whole start up ecosystem in the district.
